Judah

Updated: Dec 18, 2022

"Then he sent Judah before him to Joseph, to point out before him the way to Goshen. And they came to the land of Goshen."

Generis 46:28

Judah means praise. Praise led God's chosen people to safety. Goshen means "to draw near". So you could also say, "Praise draws you close to God".

Egpyt was a superpower when the Israelites lived there. However, since their exodus, Egypt has never risen back to that power. When Jacob and the Israelites went to Goshen, this was around 400 years before the 10 plagues came upon Egpyt- except of course, in Goshen. So praise led the Jewish people to safety for the entirety of their time living in a foreign land AND that place of safety lasted until they exited to their promised land. Isn't that amazing? Praise (Judah) is the one that got them there to a place of safety and eventually deliverance. Hallelujah. Let's not forget to praise in our circumstances. I wanted to note: sometimes praise is reading the Bible. The weight of the world can be so heavy that the simple act of opening the Bible acknowledges where our help comes from. We are drawing near even when there's not the strength to sing and dance. Jesus doesn't care how you come, just draw near- get it to Goshen!

Remember: Jesus is THE LION OF JUDAH. He came as a lamb but He will come back as a lion. You are safe to praise unabashedly like David. He is our eternal resting place. He is Judah leading us, drawing us near. Praise relinquishes the fight to The Lion who has already won. We can rest and have fun. Psalm 23.
