Av

Updated: Aug 16, 2022

We are in the month of Av on the Hebrew calendar! Yeah, I had no idea either but a couple days ago in my simple, half-asleep prayer time I heard Holy Spirit say, "the 5th of Av".

The 9th of Av is when BOTH temples were destroyed. The first in 586 by King Nebuchadnezzar. Exactly 410 years later to the day, on the 9th day of Av, the second temple was destroyed by the Romans. In fact, this date seems a historical pattern: the Jews were expelled from England in 1290 AD, they were expelled from Spain in 1492 AD, Germany declared war on Russia in 1914 effectively started WWI. Historians conclude WWII and Holocaust came about because of WWI- so you could say both world wars had their beginning on the 9th of Av. And what started this day of mourning is in 1313 the Hewbrew spies went scouting the Promised Land. Following their escape out of Egpyt, 10 out of 12 spies came back with a negative report- leaving Moses and the Israelites in the wilderness for another 38-40 years.

Av is the 5th month (5 is the Hebrew number of grace). Av means "father/comforter/consoler". It is no coincidence I'm writing this on the 15th of Av, one of the happiest days on the Jewish calendar! The Talmud considers this the greatest festival of the year with Yom Kippur (aka Day of Atonement) a close second! Ironically, there are no special observances but to increase one's study of the Torah. Today is a celebration of love and rebirth! The Talmud records the daughters of Jerusalem would go and dance in the vineyards and whoever wasn't married would go to find a bride. It's easy to see into this: the vineyard being John 15:5 which says, “I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing." The heavenly groom (Jesus) coming for His beautiful bride dancing in His garden (a bride planted in His Word and Holy Spirit indwelling). Even the scripture is numbered 15, 15th of Av, and 5 being the 5th month of Av like the date.

But I heard Holy Spirit say the 5th* of Av and I heard Him say this after the 5th of Av. In 2022 that was August 6th. When I looked it up my first thought was, "Great I missed it. I'm late, or God is late. A great word but I'm late." It took me a couple days of digging. The 5th day of the 5th month is double grace. When Zerubbabel was building the temple he shouted essentially Grace Grace, or double grace to it. "Who are you, O great mountain? Before Zerubbabel you shall become a plain! And he shall bring forth the capstone With shouts of “Grace, grace to it!”" Zechariah 4:7 NKJV. That's really cool I'll admit, but there's still something I'm not seeing. There may be an event that happened on that day this year that was significant and I'm not going to search the news! You're welcome to if Holy Spirit leads you. In any case, I'll conclude, "GRACE GRACE!". 2022 is a year of double, no actually triple.
