As I was making our Christmas cards, I had no special blessing/verse or word in mind for 2023. Normally I have something on my heart. So I just asked God, "What is Your word for 2023?". I grabbed my son's Great Adventure Bible and randomly turned to Genesis. Immediately, Jacob's name popped out but nothing else. I tried to flip somewhere else in the Bible but it was like being stuck in the mud. Jacob was THE word but I didn't know what that meant.
Fast forward a day and we were at Reed's Gold Mine. A display table about President Polk showcased toys kid's played with during his day. One was Jacob's Ladder! The tour guide said, "Yes, Jacob's Ladder from Christianity- the ladder that never ends (kind of like the toy)." How cool! When I was looking through the Bible initially, I saw Rachel, Leah, Laban- you know the story but nothing jumped out at me. But this was it! All the lights went off as Holly kept the ladder going and this seemingly unsaved person was telling me about Jacob's ladder "from Christianity"! Now all I had to do was dig and oh, what a flood! Genesis 28 reads..
3"May God Almighty bless you, And make you fruitful and multiply you, That you may be an assembly of peoples; 4 And give you the blessing of Abraham, To you and your descendants with you, That you may inherit the land In which you are a stranger, Which God gave to Abraham.”
12"Then he dreamed, and behold, a ladder was set up on the earth, and its top reached to heaven; and there the angels of God were ascending and descending on it. And behold, the Lord stood above it and said: “I am the Lord God of Abraham your father and the God of Isaac; the land on which you lie I will give to you and your descendants. Also your descendants shall be as the dust of the earth; you shall spread abroad to the west and the east, to the north and the south; and in you and in your seed all the families of the earth shall be blessed. Behold, I am with you and will keep you wherever you go, and will bring you back to this land; for I will not leave you until I have done what I have spoken to you.”

I believe this ladder is helix in shape, like our DNA, or a spiral staircase. Travel is the quickest in the shortest distance in this shape. However, each step is in faith- you can't see the top. Solomon's temple had a spiral staircase.

Hallelujah! As I concluded my prayer time and went to bed, I kept hearing over and over "Jacob's well". Again, I didn't know what that meant until the next day.
Jacob's well is only mentioned once in the Bible all the way over in The New Testament, John 4. This is the story of the woman at the well. She was the first person Jesus ever revealed himself as The Messiah to. How dreamy! Our Savior is in pursuit of the lost. He is ready to give us all a fresh supply of water (baptisim of The Holy Ghost).
